Kotobukiya ArtFX Marvel Now Spider-Man 2099 Statue

After the mid 90s, Marvel’s 2099 line was largely forgotten, with back issues relegated to dollar bins and the slate of characters largely forgotten (RIP, Ravage 2099). Fast forward to today, and if this Kotobukiya Spider-Man 2099 statue is any indication, the future has never looked so good for everyone’s favorite high-tech wallcrawler.

If you aren’t that familiar with Spider-Man 2099, his real identity is Miguel O’Hara, a brilliant Irish-Mexican geneticist living in Nueva York in the year… (wait for it)… 2099. Miguel eventually attempts to recreate the abilities of the original Spider-Man, resulting in a lab accident that fuses him with powerful genetic abilities. He eventually incorporates a number of high-tech gadgets (including his glide suit) and takes to the skies to fight crime and a variety of futuristic baddies.

Over the years, Spider-Man 2099 has slowly crawled his way back into fandom’s good graces and has since appeared in multiple adaptions, including several video games and the blockbuster animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (as well as the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).

As a huge fan of both Kotobukiya and Spider-Man 2099 going back to his early days in comic book format, I decided to bite the bullet and pick up this Marvel Now statue. So how does it stack up? Read on for my thoughts.

THE SPECS

Constructed in the traditional 1:10 scale format that has become the norm for the Marvel Now Kotobukiya ArtFX line, the Spider-Man 2099 statue stands at just over 5″ tall (if you factor in the slight crouch to the figure). That being said, while the scale isn’t huge, the attention to detail is impressive and the paint work is probably one of the best out of any ArtFX statue I have in my collection. While it is built with PVC, the material is incredibly solid and despite its small size, it actually has the heft and sturdiness of a much larger statue.

  • Height: 5″
  • Width: 8″
  • Depth: 6″
  • Weight: 1 lbs
The Spider-Man 2099 statue from Kotobukiya.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

The Kotobukiya Spider-Man 2099 statue comes pretty much assembled right out of the box. The base is incredibly solid and magnets in the feet kept the statue in place (as I’ve noted in past reviews, I’m constantly amazed by just how strong these magnets are). I accidentally banged my shelf the other day and knocked over a few slabbed comics and figures and this thing didn’t so much as wobble. The Box is also gorgeously designed, and I’m always pleasantly surprised by just how much effort Kotobukiya puts into their packaging (other statue lines should take note).

THE PRICE

The standard Kotobukiya ArtFX line offers some of the most affordable high-end figures on the market, and this particular Spider-Man 2099 statue will probably run you a little over $100 on Amazon and eBay since they’ve been out for awhile. That being said, what you get is just pure high-quality Spidey goodness, and the bang for your buck is outstanding.

The Spider-Man 2099 statue box from Kotobukiya.

MY RATING

Featuring impeccable paintwork, sharp details and an amazing pose, Kotobukiya’s Spider-Man 2099 statue is a must-have for fans of the futuristic wall crawler and is one sculpt I’m glad I finally scooped up. The 2099 line of comics might not have been the biggest hit when it first launched, but if this figure is any indication, Miguel O’Hara ain’t going anywhere.

Frank Quietly Batman Black and White Statue Review

DC Collectibles Batman Black and White statues series has been going strong for almost 20 years, with well over 100 statues in the lineup. One of my favorites, is this Frank Quietly Batman Black and White statue featuring Damian Wayne, arguably the greatest Robin of all time who happens to be the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul (in addition to being an absolute ass kicking sidekick). Quietly of course, is the artist best known for his legendary collaboration with long time DC scribe Grant Morrison. This particular sculpt captures Quietly’s style perfectly while offering the atmospheric look that’s become the hallmark of the Black and White line.

Based on the popular Batman graphic novel series of the same name, each statue in the B&W line features a design from one of the most popular artists to have worked on Batman comics (with names like Frank Miller, Neal Adams, George Prez, Jim Lee, Bruce Timm and Todd McFarlane). As a huge Frank Quietly fan, I just to had to pick this bad boy up.

THE SPECS

Sculpted by Paul Harding (a noted designer who has had a hand in a variety of other Black and White statues), the Frank Quietly Batman black and white statue stands a little over 6-inches tall, which is pretty much the standard for these pieces (with the exception of larger figures like the McFarlane 100th Black & White Statue special edition). The detail, however, is exceptional and the line work and paint is both absolutely on point.

  • Height: 6.25″
  • Width: 4″
  • Depth: 3″
  • Weight: 1.5 lbs

WHAT IT COMES WITH

The Frank Quietly Batman black and white statue comes with the now standard base featuring the iconic logo (seriously, can someone just turn that into a t-shirt already?). The bottom of the base also indicates what number the statue was in production (like all B&W sculpts, the run is limited to just 5,000 copies). What you see is pretty much what you get in terms of what the statue comes with, and there’s no additional accessories, certification or art (which is a shame as it would have been cool to see some additional bells and whistles included with the Black and White statue lineup).

THE PRICE

The price point on this particular statue is solid and you can usually find them for under a few hundred bucks on Amazon or eBay. It’s a great entry level sculpt for new collectors or anyone looking to snag their very first Batman Black and White statue.

OUR RATING

Based on the incredible art of one of DC’s greatest modern era artists and featuring one of the coolest Robins of all time, the Frank Quietly Black and white Batman statue is an absolute must-have for fans of the B&W line and Damian Wayne.

McFarlane Batman Black and White Statue Review

DC Collectibles Batman Black and White statue series has no shortage of awesome sculpts to choose from, but for us one of the coolest has got to be this unique design inspired by the early work of comic book legend Todd McFarlane.

Of course, when you think of Batman artists, McFarlane doesn’t exactly come to mind. After all, the groundbreaking 90s icon is far better known for his work on Spider-Man, Venom or Spawn (all three of which owe some of their greatest covers and very existence to the legendary artist).

Yet McFarlane also happens to have created one of the greatest Dark Knight covers of all time in the form of Batman #423. Published back in 1988, with a story by legendary DC scribe Jim Starlin and interior artwork by the late Dave Cockrum, the cover was created by a then relatively unknown McFarlane.

Since that time, Batman #423 has gone on to become a hot collectible item (even getting its very own Funko Pop!), so it’s understandable that DC Collectibles decided to release a Batman black and white statue in honor of McFarlane’s iconic work.

Batman #423

THE SPECS

In addition to its awesome lines and sharp details, this particular figure actually marks the 100th Batman black and white statue to grace the popular line, which has been going on for over 15 years. If you haven’t heard of Batman black and white before, it’s actually a series of popular graphic novels which feature stand alone one-shot stories (all in black and white color, of course) from the very best artists and writers to have ever penned or drawn a Dark Knight comic.

This particular statue is sculpted by DC Collectibles go-to artist Jonathan Matthews, with art direction from Jim Fletcher and paint work from Gentle Giant (the studio better known for their series of Marvel Animated statues). The McFarlane Batman black and white statue stands at almost 10-inches tall, making it a bit bigger than the usual figures in the lineup. It’s also constructed out of polystone, which makes it a lot sturdier and heavier than traditional polyresin and PVC sculpts.

  • Height: 9.75″
  • Width: 9′
  • Depth: 11″
  • Weight: 5 lbs
Todd McFarlane holding a Batman black and white sculpture.
Todd McFarlane holding the Batman black and white statue.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

This McFarlane Batman black and white statue comes with a standard base, which features the number beneath it (like all B&W sculpts, the run is limited to just 5,000 copies – ours was lucky number 603). Everything comes fully assembled right out of the box and there’s no set up required. The whole thing looks absolutely gorgeous.

THE PRICE

The price point on this thing is great and you can snag them for under a few hundred bucks on Amazon or eBay, although that’s likely to go up as the statues have picked up a ton of popularity over the past few years and the market on both McFarlane collectibles and Batman black and white statues is likely to climb. Honestly though, it’s a hell of a sculpt for what you get and one that won’t break the bank (particularly when you consider the cost of larger sculpts and figures from brands like Hot Toys, XM Studios and Sideshow).

The Batman black and white statue along with the box it comes in.

OUR RATING

Drawing on the iconic work of one of the greatest Batman covers of all time, the McFarlane Black and white Batman statue is a true work of art, capturing the razor sharp lines of a comic book master and the timeless power of the Dark Knight himself.

Kotobukiya ArtFX 1:6 Scale Venom Statue Review

Let’s face it: nothing goes together better than Kotobukiya and drooling alien symbiotes. That’s why we couldn’t help ourselves and recently snapped up this Venom statue without so much as a a second thought. And sweet mother of carnage is it one fantastic sculpt!

Released as part of Kotobukiya’s Marvel Comics ArtFX+ line, this 1:6 scale Venom statue is a big boy (much like Eddie Brock himself), with solid PVC molding mounted atop a cold-cast resin base depicting New York City. The end result is one of the most awesome Venom statues on the market, and one collectible we just had to get our tendrils on.

THE SPECS

Sculpted by the legendary Junnosuke Abe (also known as RESTORE), who happens to be the brains behind numerous Kotobukiya ArtFX designs, this particular Venom statue stands at an impressive 16.5-inches tall, with the base giving it a noticeable lift that really helps it catch the eye. It also weighs in at a hefty 12 pounds, so be prepared to have a decent space to display this bad boy.

  • Height: 16.5″
  • Width: 20″
  • Depth: 20″
  • Weight: 12 lbs
The Kotobukiya ArtFX Venom statue.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

The Kotobukiya Venom statue comes disassembled, with the head and arms detached, but we had a pretty easy time putting it together and it’s really a no-brainer. The cathedral tower in particular snaps together and looks great (and is really what drew us to this statue to begin with). It would have been cool if there was a light up LED component like you sometimes see with other pieces (like Kotobukiya’s Cosmic Ghost Rider statue), but that’s a minor complaint. Everything that’s in the box is solid and the packaging itself is gorgeous (if you’re one of those neurotic collectors like us who actually likes to keep the boxes around for display).

THE PRICE

As a higher end Kotobukiya piece this isn’t quite as affordable as the smaller 1:6 figures (like the Kotobukiya Miles Morales statue we recently reviews), but it’s definitely worth the price tag, and with a limited run on these bad boys, you could potentially flip it on the secondary market and web up a tidy profit (although we have no intention of letting ours go anytime soon).

A side profile view of the The Kotobukiya ArtFX Venom statue.

OUR RATING

With its massive scale, intricate details, incredible base and jaw-dropping pose, Kotobukiya’s ArtFX Venom statue has as salivating more than a hungry symbiote. This sick puppy is definitely a must have for fans of both statues and Marvel’s greatest web slinging bad ass.

Kotobukiya Miles Morales Spider-Man Statue

As a massive fan of both Kotobukiya and Miles Morales we literally could not wait to get our hands on this Spider-Man statue. So when it showed up on Amazon for a solid price, we snapped it up faster than you could say “THWIP!” and added it our growing webcrawler collection.

As part of Kotobukiya’s Marvel Comics ArtFX+ line, this 1:10th scale figure honestly gets our Spidey senses tingling, featuring a sweet pose and trademark black and red costume of the Ultimate Spider-Man himself.

If for some reason you’ve been living under a rock, Miles Morales hails from the Earth 1610 universe and first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 back in 2011. Since then, he’s exploded into comic book fandom, snagging his own film (Into the Spiderverse) and even a PS5 game. So it’s no surprise that he’s also ended up securing his own spot in Kotobukiya’s premium line of statues.

THE SPECS

Sculpted by longtime Kotobukiya Marvel artist Junnosuke Abe, the Ultimate Spider-Man statue stands at just over 4 inches tall (which is standard for the ArtFX+ 1:10th scale) while crouched. While not a massive piece by any stretch of the imagination, the detail level for this scale is positively mind boggling and it definitely makes a great entry point for veteran Kotobukiya fans or collectors looking to snag their very first Spider-Man statue.

  • Height: 4″
  • Width: 7″
  • Depth: 8″
  • Weight: 1 lb

WHAT IT COMES WITH

In typical ArtFX style that statue comes with a solid base, with magnets located in Spider-Man’s feet connecting directly. It’s surprisingly sturdy and holds up well. The head and arms are detached when you open the box, but snapping it all together is a breeze. It’s also worth noting that the box is actually a piece of art unto itself, and the attention that Kotobukiya lavishes onto its packaging really is impressive.

THE PRICE

At one of the more affordable high-end Spider-Man statues on the market you won’t break the bank shelling out for this figure and the quality of the work is definitely worth it (no real surprise there given the quality of Kotobukiya). You’re not going to get the level of detail that you would with a Hot Toy or larger Sideshow piece, but it’s still a solid little statue that looks great with virtually any display.

OUR RATING

With impressive detail from master sculptor Junnosuke Abe, sharp paintwork and a truly inspired pose, this Miles Morales Spider-man statue from Kotobukiya is honestly a must-have for webheads everywhere.

The Ten Greatest Thanos Funko Pop Figures

0

The Mad Titan is arguably the greatest Marvel villain of all time, which is why it’s no surprise that there’s countless Thanos Funko Pop figures available for toy collectors and comic book nerds alike. Below are ten of my favorite figures that you may just want to get your gauntlets on in the near future. So snap to it and take a look!

A Thanos Punisher Funko Pop featuring the character from the Earth 18138 reality.

Thanos Punisher Funko Pop! (Earth 18138 Variant)

He’s big, he’s purple, he’s… the Punisher? Pulled from the pages of the Cosmic Ghost Rider comic book series (and the insane Earth-18138 reality), the Thanos Punisher Funko Pop is easily one of the weirdest and most awesome figures I have in my entire collection and a must-have for fans of Frank Castle and the Mad Titan.

A Thanos in the garden Funko Pop figure.

Thanos in the Garden Funko Pop!

Sometimes after a hard day of wiping out half of the galaxy, even the maddest of Mad Titans likes to kick back, dress casual and relax. That’s why this battle-scarred Thanos in the Garden Funko Pop figures is one of our favorites, showing that even a time-traveling tyrant needs to stop and smell the roses every once in a while.

A Blacklight Thanos Funko Pop figure.

Blacklight Thanos Funko Pop!

What’s bright purple, yellow and kinda evil? If you said Wario, guess again. No, it’s this awesome Blacklight Thanos Funko Pop! Featuring a sweet version of the Mad Titan that glows, it’s one ultraviolet (and dare we say it, ultra violent) figure I just couldn’t pass up.

A Gingerbread Thanos Funko Pop figure.

Gingerbread Thanos Funko Pop

In the running for quite possibly the weirdest (and most delicious) version of the Mad Titan ever, is this sweet Gingerbread Thanos Funko Pop, that features everyone’s favorite Marvel villain in all his icing-filled glory. With only a limited number created, you may have to run, run as fast you can just to get one of these (sorry, I couldn’t resist).

A venomized Thanos Funko Pop figure.

Venomized Thanos Funko Pop!

It seems like everyone and their dog has been merged with a symbiote these days, but that doesn’t mean it is isn’t still cool. Case in point: this Venomized Thanos Funko Pop, which combines two of the Marvel universes biggest and baddest bad guys and is one figure I absolutely had to get my tendrils on.

A Thor vs Thanos Funko Pop diorama.

Thor vs Thanos Funko Pop!

The God of Thunder meets the Mad Titan himself in this ultimate showdown set. I actually picked this Thor vs Thanos Funko Pop up when it first came out and it’s been one of mt favorites ever since. It’s hammer vs. gauntlet in the ultimate super-powered Pop smackdown.

A Captain America and Thanos Funko pop diorama.

Captain America and Thanos Funko Pop!

Everyone’s favorite unshaven super solider takes on the ultimate purple-chinned bad ass. I honestly couldn’t wait for this Captain America and Thanos Funko Pop! diorama to come out so I could relive all the glory of one of the greatest scenes in MCU history.

The Thanos Funko Pop Rainbow Infinity Saga figure.

Thanos Infinity Saga Art Series Pop!

Sure, he’s an intergalactic despot who wants to wipe out half the universe. But if this limited edition Thanos Funko Pop from Entertainment Earth is any indication, underneath he’s just a big glittery, rainbow colored softy. And for that reason, this puppy is definitely one of my favorite Funko figures.

A Thanos Funko Pop featuring the Mad Titan snapping an Infinity Gauntlet.

Thanos Snap Guardians of the Galaxy Pop!

Some might say he’s wiping out trillions of lives, I prefer to think he’s just snapping along to a super sick beat. In either case, this statue of the Mad Titan standing atop a pile of Funkosized skulls is an absolute must-have for both Pop! and Marvel fans alike.

An Avengers Endgame Thanos Funko Pop.

Avengers Endgame Thanos Pop!

Not everyone has the confidence to pull off a pair of gold-trimmed boots, but the Mad Titan manages to make it look effortless in this amazing Avengers Endgame Thanos Pop. Throw in his double-sized battle-blade and the big purple guy has never looked better.

When it comes to Funkos, there’s not shortage of options to choose from, with new releases coming out on an almost daily basis. Some of our favorites, however, are exclusive Entertain Earth Funko Pops that have just hit the market and which we can’t wait to get our nerdy little mitts on.

An Entertain Earth Funko Pop of Loki with glow in the dark scepter.

Avengers Loki with Scepter Pop!

He’s the villain you love to hate and also just plain love – and all wrapped up in a new Funko figure that includes an amazing glow in the dark scepter and the God of Mischief’s trademarked horned helmet. What’s not to love?

An Entertainment Earth exclusive Funko Pop featuring the Scarlet Witch.

WandaVision Scarlet Witch Pop!

In our opinion WandaVision was easily the best Disney+ show of the past few years (sorry, Hawkeye). That’s what makes this Scarlet Witch Funko so absolutely amazing. The design is amazing, but it’s the fact that glows in the dark with an eerie red light that really makes this a must-have Pop!.

Two Spider-Man imposter Funko Pops from Entertainment Earth.

Spider-Man Imposter Pop!

Are the end credits to Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse the greatest thing to happen to webcrawler since the invention of radioactive spiders? Yes. Yes they are. That’s why this meme-worthy pointing imposter Spider-Man Funko is honestly something we just have to THWIP!

The Entertainment Earth Galactus Funko Pop.

Galactus with Silver Surfer Jumbo Pop!

We’re unapologetic Galactus fanboys which is why this larger 10-inch Pop is something we desperately need. Featuring a color scheme that changes in black light, it’s a trippy homage to the original Jack Kirby design and proof that size really does matter. All hail the Devourer of Worlds!

The Venom Poison Funko Pop from Entertainment Earth.

Venom Poison Spider-Man Pop!

Okay, Funko has done an absolute ton of Venom and “venomized” Pops over the years, but this Venom Poison figure has us drooling more than a bloodthirsty symbiote. The fact that this also glows in the dark makes this one Funko we really want to dig our tentacles into.

The Marvel Zombies Thor Funko Pop from Entertainment Earth.

Marvel Zombies Thor Pop!

By Odin’s beard this Funko doth have us most verily questing for its addition to yon collection… Ahem. This thing is an absolute masterpiece of Pop mayhem, blending the best of Thor with Marvel’s popular zombies lineup. The glow in the dark design is pure magic and an absolute no-brain for fans of the undead and the God of Thunder.

The Iron Man Hall of Armor Model 4 Deluxe Funko Pop.

Iron Man Hall of Armor Model 4 Deluxe Pop!

One of the coolest additions to Funk pops in recent years is some of the dynamic backgrounds, and this figure is no exception. Featuring the old school Model 4 Iron Man armor and display, this things is just begging for top spot on our shelf.

The Iron Man Model 1 Deluxe Funko Pop.

Iron Man Hall of Armor Iron Man Model 1 Deluxe Pop!

And if you’re an Iron Man fan who wants to go really old school, you can’t get much better than this Funko featuring the original Iron Man model 1 armor. It’s retro, it’s bad ass, it’s pure Iron Man goodness.

The Batman Todd McFarlane Funko Pop variant from Entertainment Earth.

Batman #423 McFarlane Pop!

Okay, this may just be our favorite Funko of all time. An homage to the classic Batman cover by Todd McFarlance, the figure comes with a backdrop featuring a replica of the original comic. If that isn’t worthy of display in your Batcave, nothing is.

Neal Adams Superman Statue Review

In the annals of legendary comic book artists there are few names bigger than Neal Adams. So it’s only right that DC Collectibles brought Adams’ instantly recognizable style to this incredible Superman statue, which we recently added to our collection.

While Adams is perhaps better known for his work on Batman, with this particular Superman statue, the iconic artist’s unique style is clearly on display, with the figure based on the Neal Adam’s cover art for Superman Vol. 1 #233 from 1971 (which remains arguably one of the most recognizable Superman covers of all time).

The cover to Neal Adams Superman #233 issue.
Superman #233

THE SPECS

Sculpted by longtime DC Collectibles artist Jonathan Matthews, the Neal Adams Superman statue stands at an impressive 13-inches high, which gives an eye-catching weight to the piece. The paint work is particularly well done and the kryptonite chains look great and are perfectly molded to the figure.

  • Height: 13″
  • Width: ″10
  • Depth: 14″
  • Weight: 3 lbs
A Superman statue featuring the Man of Steel breaking free from a chain made of kryptonite.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

This particular Superman statue comes with a standard solid base, which features the classic Superman logo and is relatively sturdy. The figure simply snaps into place and there’s very little give. It would have been awesome if the product came with some additional items, like a print of the original Neal Adams cover or even a replica issue, but the statue itself is so gorgeous that it more than makes up for it (in true DC Collectibles fashion, the Box is also a work of art unto itself).

THE PRICE

As a slightly larger figure, you can expect to pay a bit more than you would other Superman statues on the market, including those from DC Collectibles. That being said, the value is definitely there and with a limited run of just 5,000 copies this particular piece does seem to be selling well on eBay, which suggests it might be a decent investment if you’re ever interested in flipping it.

OUR RATING

With incredible detail, solid painting and an homage to one of the greatest comic book covers of all time featuring the Man of Steel, this latest DC Collectibles Superman statue is honestly a must-have for fans of both Kal-El and Neal Adams alike.

Kotobukiya Cosmic Ghost Rider Statue Review

Kotobukiya has earned a reputation as one of the most iconic pop culture designers in the world, and this stunning Cosmic Ghost Rider statue is no exception. Based on one of Marvel’s weirdest and most awesome new comic book characters, Cosmic Ghost Rider first debuted in 2018 and just happens to be the Punisher (aka Frank Castle), who – after dying – ends up transformed and delivering vengeance throughout the galaxy under the guise of this epic sci-fi hero. The statue is part of Kotobukiya’s ArtFX Premier Series, which remains one of their most popular high-end lines due to its meticulous attention to detail and solid paint work.

THE SPECS

At 1:10 scale, the realism on the statue is impressive, thanks in large part to the digital sculpting technology that Kotobukiya employs. Each individual piece of the statue is layered with several types of paint, which provides a real sense of depth to the piece. And while the statue is a bit on the smaller side compared to some larger pieces from Sideshow or XM Studios, it still feels incredibly well put together.

  • Height: 8.6″
  • Width: 8.75′
  • Depth: 12″
  • Weight: 1.6 lbs
The Cosmic Ghost Rider statue by Marvel comics and Kotobukiya.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

One of the coolest features is the LEDs that are built into the statue and allow you to light up the flames around Cosmic Ghost Rider’s head and the magma flowing at the base of the statue, all of which really does add a unique vibe to the piece if you decide to turn them on.

The statue’s helmet and chains on his body can also be removed, which offers a variety of display options. It’s also worth noting that the packaging itself is pretty impressive and includes an original illustration and a gold printed certificate of authenticity (assuming you pick it up new)

THE PRICE

The Kotobukiya Cosmic Ghost Rider statue isn’t exactly cheap, but like all things from the ArtFX line, you get what you pay for. The figures also look to be a pretty solid investment on the secondary market (judging by recent eBay sales).

A Cosmic Ghost Rider statue posed next to its box.

OUR RATING

With incredible realism, jaw dropping paintwork, the inclusion of LEDs and removable components, this Kotobukiya’s Cosmic Ghost Rider statue is an absolute must have for fans of the character or anyone looking to add an amazing new piece to their collection.
