What is a Flocked Funko Pop?

If you’re a Funko collector you may have heard the term “flocked” used before in reference to these amazing vinyl figure. So just what is a Flocked Funko Pop?

Essentially, a flocked Funko is a figure covered with a surface layer of fabric (a process known as “flocking”). The result is a texture that looks and feels like velvet or suede. Funko often labels these on the box as “Flocked” and they’re usually applied to characters with fur to add an extra level of detail.

How many flocked Funko Pops are there?

Currently, there isn’t a running count available of how many Funkos have flocking on them, but the number is likely substantial and they are fairly common. In most cases there are variant flocked versions of existing figures. For example, the Ice Man Funko Pop based on the popular Marvel character has both a standard and flocked version available. Many Disney characters (especially those that have fur) also end up with flocked variants.

How to Preserve Your Flocked Funko

If you do end up getting a flocked Pop, bear in mind that the material can be more easy to damage than a standard Funko. To maintain the most value, you’ll probably want to keep your figure in their box. That being said, if you do end up taking them out be sure to keep them away from any heat, water and other substances that might damage the flocking material but that would be relatively easy to clean on a typical vinyl Funko.

Also bear in mind that excessive handling can wear down the material and fabric on your Funko, so you’ll probably want to keep holding the figure to a minimum in order to preserve their value.
