Batman Black and White Statues Reviews & News

DC Direct’s Batman Black and White Statue line remains one of the longest running collectible lines of all time, with the series first launching in 2005 and since launching over 100 different figures.

The series is of based on the popular Batman graphic novels of the same name, which feature stand alone one-shot stories (all in black and white) from an assortment of some of the comic book industries most popular writers and artists.

The Batman Black and White statue line takes a similar approach, showcasing sculpts from some of the top artists to have drawn the Dark Knight, including statues based on the works of Frank Miller, Neal Adams, George Prez, Bruce Timm and Todd McFarlane, to name just a few. The end result is a variety of art styles that range from classic Batman look and feel, to more cartoonish and bizarre variations – all of which offer a unique take on the Dark Knight.

While initially the figures in the line were all designed to feature the Caped Crusader alone, DC Direct has since expanded to Batman black and white statue lineup to feature villains from Gotham’s rogue’s gallery, including The Joker by Jim Lee, Brian Bolland’s Penguin, Steve Rude’s Catwoman and Kelley Jones’ Bane.

Fastforward a years later and the Batman Black and White statue series grew to encompass members of the Bat Family, including Batgirl designs by Babs Tarr and Bruce Timm, as well as Robin statues from Carmine Infantino and Frank Quitely.

Typically, the statues are around 7 inches in size, although DC has released large 12 inch variants of special statues (such as the McFarlane special edition 100th Batman Black and White statue). This may explain the popularity of the series given that they’re a great entry level figure for both new and avid collectors alike.
