I’m a huge fan of DC Collectibles (now known as DC Direct) Batman Black and White statue series, which features sculptures based on some of the most popular comic book artists of all time, with everything from Todd McFarlane and Frank Quietly to Jock and Jim Lee. Yet one of my favorite artists is the legendary Greg Capullo (whose work with writer Scott Snyder includes some of the greatest Batman runs of all time). That’s why I was so stoked to eventually get my hands on this (now sold out) 2nd edition Batman Black and White Statue based on the unique style of Capullo.
THE SPECS
Sculpted by artist Jonathan Matthews (who’s previously done a number of other statues for DC Collectibles/DC Direct), the statue stands at a little over 8-inches tall, which is pretty standard for the B&W lineup (with the exception of certain larger, prestige format figures like the Todd McFarlane 100th Batman Black & White statue). Despite being in black and white, the paintwork is exceptional on this one, and the pose and sharp lines really bring the figure to life, making this easily one of my favorite statues in the Batman Black and White lineup.

WHAT IT COMES WITH
This particular Batman Black and White statue comes with a base that’s now standard for the series and which includes the limited edition number underneath (as mentioned earlier, ours is the second edition of this statue, which like the first edition is limited to just 5,000 copies). Everything comes fully assembled right out of the box and there’s no set up required. The end result is an absolutely jaw-dropping statues that fans of Greg Capullo will love (I think I even dig mine more than the full color Capullo Dark Nights Metal Batman statue, which I also recently added to my collection).
THE PRICE
Although two separate versions of this figure have been produced, sadly it’s since been discontinued. That being said, you can still snag one on eBay for under $100, if you poke around long enough. It’s definitely worth the price tag in my view and is a great little addition to any Bat fan’s collection.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Featuring a unique stylistic take on the Dark Knight, the Batman Black and White Greg Capullo statue is a true work of art that’s sharper than a Batarang, cooler than the Batmobile and packs an absolutely stunning visual wollop.
