Hot Toys Iron Man Neon Tech 4.0 Review

When it comes to technology, there’s really no superhero in the Marvel universe that can top Tony Stark. Case in point: Hot Toys Iron Man Neon Tech 4.0, a figure that offers all the classic Stark technology fans love and know and love, while adding enough glowing holographic accents to make a Tron fan swoon.

Based on the Iron Man Mark L armor featured in Avengers: Infinity War, this particular diecast figure is really a unique take from Hot Toys, as this version of Iron Man has never really appeared in any comic books, video games, film or television properties (at least as far as I know).

That being said, the figure is incredibly cool, featuring a sleek design, impressive paintwork and a variety of built-in LED lights that really bring the whole thing to life. The end result is a high-tech Hot Toy Iron Man oddity that I just couldn’t resist adding to my collection.

THE SPECS

As a Hot Toys 1:6 scale figure, the Iron Man Neon Tech 4.0 stands a little over 12-inches tall (which is actually a little bit bigger than most Hot Toys, which are a bit under 12 inches). As you’d expect from Hot Toys, the level of detail is insane and the paintwork and color on this bad boy are absolutely gorgeous. The figure also has 30 individual points of articulation (offering a ton of options for posing and display) and 21 LED lights, which probably puts this in the running for the most battery-powered Hot Toys sixth-scale figure ever.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

This particular Hot Toys Iron Man figure comes loaded for bear with a ton of accessories, weapons and parts. The head in particular is honestly a masterpiece, with built-in white LED light-up functionality that brings an insane level of realism for such a small scale. The figure also includes the following body and armor parts:

  • x1 pair of articulated back air flaps
  • x1 detachable chest plate (revealing interior circuits)
  • x4 pairs of interchangeable hands, including:
    • x1 pair of fists
    • x1 pair of hands with articulated fingers and light-up LED repulsors
    • x1 pair of battle hands with light-up LED repulsor
    • x1 pair of hands (for weapons)

One of the coolest features of the Hot Toys Iron Man Neon Tech figure though has got to be the wide range of weapons it comes with, including:

  • x1 LED light-up repulsor cannon (interchangeable with right arm)
  • x1 hand cannon (interchangeable with left arm)
  • x1 pair of boosters (attachable to back armor)
  • x1 holo shield
  • x1 energy blade (eat your heart out, Master Chief)

THE PRICE

After shipping and handling, this particular fig is going to run you at least $400 USD (although as with all things Sideshow/Hot Toys, you can always opt into their payment plan if you don’t want to pony up the cash right away). As far as I’m concerned though, the price is more than worth it and it’s actually bit more affordable than some of the other Hot Toys Iron Man figures on the market (some of which can run well into the $500 USD range).

MY RATING

With its LED functionality, incredible paint work and impressive range of weapons and accessories, the Hot Toys Iron Man Neon Tech 4.0 figure is a pure work of cutting-edge awesomeness. Marvel purists may turn their nose up at the overall aeshthetic, but if you’re looking for something a little more Tron with your Tony Stark, you can’t go wrong this beauty.
