Below you can find our Top 10 list of comic books that have seen an increase in speculation and investing. Below we take a closer look at that list and offer our own take on each of the comics featured for April 2nd, 2022.
1. Black #1
This very cool series takes place in an alternate reality where 0.5% of the population of African Americans have superpowers. With recent news that Warner Bros. is adapting it into a film, the book has picked up some new buzz from collectors, with raw copies going for around $50 on eBay and the value likely to increase if the film does get produced (always a risky gamble with any spec).
2. Moon Knight #1
With the Moon Knight TV series finally hitting Disney+ (and the reviews generally being quite favorable) this book is likely still going to see a jump in value. Assuming the series is a hit, it’s possible Moon Knight may even jump onto the big screen with the MCU, which is why getting this book now might not be a bad investment (even if some speculators say it’s capped out at around $150 for a raw high grade copy).
3. The Nice House on the Lake #1
With this book continuing to grow in popularity it seems inevitable that it will be optioned as either a film or television series. A number of speculation lists have noted recent sales movement, which suggests that now might be a time to invest in this book, with high grade raw copies generally going for the $15-20 USD range.
4. Marvel Comics Presents #72
As the first book to delve into the origin of Wolverine and the Weapon X program, this book has continued to pick up steam over the past few years with a ton of new sales tracking across multiple platforms and high grade raw copies now going in the $50-$100 mark. With the possibility of Wolverine bleeding into the MCU chances are this book will continue to pay dividends.
5. Detective Comics #647
Marking the first appearance of the vigilante Spoiler (whose alter ego Stephanie Brown later becomes Robin) this book has picked up some spec heat in recent days when news broke that actress Anna Lore had been cast as Stephanie Brown in the CW’s upcoming Gotham Knights TV series. You can expect to pay between $30-50 for this book, but it could pan out to be a reliable long term investment.
6. Marvel Spotlight #5
Representing the first apparence of Ghost Rider, this book has already been a hot commodity for years. Now, with rumors that Ghost Rider will be appearing in Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness the book has grown even hotter, with high grade copies selling in the $7,000 range and hitting new record sales.
7. Marvel Premiere #28
The first team appearance and origin of the Legion of Monsters (consisting of Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, Morbius and Werewolf by Night), fans seem to be betting that the Legion will appear in some future Marvel property. It seems a bit farfetched for now, but if this ever does become a possibility this book could offer a solid ROI, with high grade copies going for around $300 and a recent 9.8 recently selling for $10,000 (which seems slightly insane).
8. Blue Beetle #1
The first appearance of Conrad Carapax (who later becomes Indestructible Man) the book has picked up heat as Indestructible Man is rumored to be the villain in the upcoming Blue Beetle film which has Sharon Stone attached as a producer and is allegedly starring Cobra Kai actor Xolo Maridueña as the Jaime Reyes version of the Blue Beetle. Currently this book is relatively cheap (you can probably snag it for under $10) but that may not be the case for long if the movie ends up going ahead.
9. Thor: God of Thunder #2
Marking the first appearance of Gorr the God Butcher and the Necrosword (the first symbiote created by Knull) this book picked up a ton of attention when it was first announced that Christian Bale will play Gorr in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film. With the trailer still not released, anticipation is clearly building resulting in a ton of new sales for this book, with high grade raw copies now going in the $200 – $300 price range.
10. Batman: Beyond The White Knight #1
A new book that was supposed to come out this week, there’s been a ton of line chatter about shortages. Speculators have been quick to pound, driving up the cost to as much as $20 for these bad boys. If this is indeed an a major issue, the book will probably cool down back to cover price, but if you see this in the wild you might want to pick up (it also looks like a very cool continuation of Sean Murphy’s ongoing White Knight series).
